Pledge overview

In the hinterland of the Tengger Desert, we are working on the restoration of desert oases among shifting sand dunes. Building upon the protection of existing vegetation, we are taking advantage of favorable conditions in the low-lying areas between dunes, where soil moisture is favorable, and wind erosion is relatively low. We are planting tall and perennial shrubs like “huabang” along the edges of sand dunes and oases. We are employing two seasonal water efficient tree-planting techniques, spring water flushing afforestation and autumn clamp-insertion afforestation, to restore the ecology of these small oases and enhance their windbreak and sand-fixing capabilities. This effort aims to provide a better habitat environment for birds and animals, gradually achieving stability and balance in the desert ecosystem.

On both sides of the 29-kilometer-long Hagen Gele Highway, we are planting shrubs such as "huabang," "ningtiao," "suosuo," and "shaguai dates" to create a protective forest belt that is 100 meters wide and covers an area of approximately 3000 mu (appx 200 ha). This not only ensures road safety and smooth traffic but also establishes a "vertical" desert landscape road scenery, promoting the development of local industries like eco-tourism.

The project involves a professional team (led by Wu Xiangrong's "Planting Trees with Love" team) working in collaboration with local community herders. This approach supports the active participation of local herders in tree planting, maintenance, and utilization, thereby ensuring the sustainability of desertification prevention and ecological restoration projects.

In response to the 1t.org China action, Trendy Group's Desert Oasis Restoration Plan will invest 7.36 million RMB to plant a million trees. We anticipate creating highway protective forests and restoring 22,000 mu (approximately 1,467 ha) of small oases by 2025.

Actions in this pledge

  • Restoring and growing trees and forest landscapes

    Supporting actions
    Reforestation
Re-establishment of forest through planting and/or deliberate seeding on land classified as forest, that has been degraded or where trees are unlikely to regenerate naturally
Other restoration and tree growing activities
    Desert oasis restoration
    Additional details

From 2022 to 2024, an annual investment of 1.17 million RMB is planned, aiming to plant 190,000 trees to create a protective forest belt along the desert road.
In the five-year plan from 2021 to 2025, 1.1 million RMB will be allocated in the first and last years, with an annual planting of 250,000 trees. In 2022, 2023, and 2024, 550,000 RMB will be invested each year, leading to the planting of 125,000 trees annually. The total afforestation effort is expected to cover 17,500 mu (approximately 2,900 acres) for the restoration of desert oases.
